Home MenuAmes Building Photo Tour (2020)
Town Hall offices moved into Ames in July 2020, but it has not yet been opened to the public because of the pandemic. Until members of the public can tour this historic building, Town staff will be updating this page with photos to provide a some glimpses of this impressive civic space.
The Ames Building was constructed as a school in 1897 and opened to Dedham Public Schools students the following year. The the four-story structure has nearly 53,000 square feet gross area and sits on a 2-acre parcel at 450 Washington Street.
The building is named after Dedham native Fisher Ames (1758-1808), a skilled politician and orator who served in the first four federal Congresses and was a leader of the New England Federalists. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
The Town sold the building in 1984, and it was used as an office building for several decades. In 2014, the Town repurchased the building for $5,850,000 with plans to renovate it to house Town Hall offices and the senior center. Those renovations were not completed until 2020.
