Being a police officer is a meaningful way to serve our community. As a police officers, you will be a public servant responsible for preserving law and order in the Town of Dedham. You often respond to emergency calls, working shifts that operate around the clock with your fellow police officers.
First things first, please read the steps to become a Police Officer;
You need to first take a written exam. You also need to meet these requirements:
- You must meet the age requirement.
- You need to have a high school diploma or a GED certificate. You can also satisfy this requirement with three years of military service and an honorable discharge. Find more information for veterans.
- You must be a resident, lived in the Town of Dedham physically, at least one year before the date of your exam.
After taking the written exam, you are listed on the eligible list. When the Dedham Police Department wants to hire, they requests an eligible list for Police Officer. The Civil Service Unit releases a group of candidates, called the Eligible list. In order to provide the Eligible list, the Civil Service unit holds a Civil Service exam usually every other year.
