The project consists of a recreational use study of the corridor adjacent to the Charles River along Providence Highway and the VFW Parkway. The corridor runs from Barnes Memorial Park/Gonzales Field to the south to the VFW Parkway/Spring Street/Bridge Street intersection.
The focus for the project is the un-used Town-owned land adjacent to Providence Highway along the Charles River at 205 Providence Highway and the surrounding natural spaces.
The Town wishes to use this land for recreation and also feels this is an excellent opportunity to connect the two parks through a greenway. Prior to this effort, the Town along with several teaming partners recently completed an Action Plan for the VFW Parkway Providence Highway Corridor aimed as improving pedestrian and bicycle movement along the corridor. This Study would build off that Action Plan by envisioning a greenway along the corridor and tying into the Action Plan's proposed improvements.

The project will consist of several components that span the course of 6 months, such as:
Kick-off Meeting - BL Companies will meet with the Project Team, made up of the representatives of the Town of Dedham and City of Boston, at the outset of the project to confirm basic project expectations, the direction of our design approach and project timelines.
Site Reconnaissance - Project Team will perform reconnaissance efforts to visually review and assess property areas and facilities/features.
GIS Basemap -BL Companies will prepare GIS mapping of the project area to identify the location of key features, property lines and other available information.
Initial Concepts - BL Companies will prepare initial hand or computerized concept sketches to illustrate their initial thoughts and ideas for proposed recreational uses along the corridor.
Concept Plans - Concept sketches will be refined with various feasible options (3) based on comments from Project Team. Color plan graphics illustrating each option as well as six (6) sketch perspective renderings illustrating the vision for each option will be prepared
1st Public Meeting (Virtual) - This will be an information gathering session to solicit input from the community on the needs and desires for the recreational use of the corridor
Prepare Concepts - Based on the input from the Project team meetings and the first public meeting, BL Companies will refine and narrow down the concept plan options into one "Preferred Concept Plan" for the corridor.
Begin Draft Study Report - During this stage, BL Companies will prepare an outline for the Study Report and begin a draft of the Study Report.
2nd Public Meeting (Virtual) - This will be a consensus building session where participants will be provided an opportunity to weigh-in on the draft Preferred Concept Plan.
Final Plan and Report - BL Companies will complete a high-quality illustrative Recreational Use Study Report for delivery to Town representatives
