About GIS Technology

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a mapping technology that captures, stores, analyzes and interprets spatial data.  It is used by many of Dedham's municipal departments as a tool to aide in making important townwide decisions.  The Town of Dedham began using GIS technology in the late 1990s.  Since that time, this robust software has been utilized to create numerous maps and applications for addressing, infrastructure and utilities, government services, property and taxes, and aerial imagery.
