Daytime Roadway Closures Scheduled for East Street, August 26-30
Traffic will be detoured
The MBTA’s contractor for the Dedham East Street Bridge Replacement Project, P. Gioioso & Sons, will close East Street under the bridge the week of August 26-30, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM each day. The closures are necessary to allow the contractor to conduct underground utility investigation work.
Weather and unexpected circumstances make all construction activities subject to change without notice, but we will do our best to keep you updated.
Traffic Impacts
East Street traffic will be detoured via Cedar Street and Sanderson Avenue:
- For traffic traveling north on East Street:
- From the roundabout, take the Sprague Street/Cedar Street exit then continue on Cedar Street until you reach the five-way intersection.
- Turn left on Sanderson Avenue then turn left (toward the bridge) or right (to continue north on East Street) to continue to your destination.
- For traffic traveling south on East Street:
- Turn left on Sanderson Avenue then right on Cedar Street.
- Continue on Cedar Street until you reach the roundabout then continue to your destination.
Local access on either side of the Commuter Rail bridge will be maintained. Detour signs will be in place to indicate the routes.
View the detour map here.
Travel Tips
Those traveling through the area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution.
Pedestrians
Police officers will be stationed on East Street at each end of the detour and will facilitate pedestrian crossing through the work site.
About the Project
The Dedham East Street Bridge carries the Franklin Line over East Street between Dedham Corporate Center and Endicott Stations. The MBTA will be replacing it with a new bridge that will meet the MBTA’s reliability and modernization standards.
