To kick off a discussion about East Dedham Square and potential improvements to its public spaces—streets,  sidewalks, and crosswalks—the Town will host a community meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, at the Mother Brook Arts & Community Center’s library, 123 High St.

Fifty years ago, “urban renewal” razed East Dedham's historic mill village and redesigned the streets for automobile traffic. Those changes benefited vehicular traffic at the expense of other uses. East Dedham Square’s public spaces could function better for everyone—whether they’re walking, running, biking, driving, shopping, or just hanging out.

The Saturday morning meeting time was chosen to enable more seniors, families, and young people to participate.

The event will not be a presentation but an active conversation about existing assets and areas of improvement. We’ll be soliciting ideas from attendees and marking up aerial images of the Square. The discussion will be facilitated by Steve Allen, a principal with the architecture firm Prellwitz Chilinski Associates.

Over the next six months, the Town will be studying and recommending design improvements to the public spaces in and around East Dedham Square. To learn more, contact John Sisson, economic development director, (781) 751-9175.
